The Cyberpunk 2077 PS5 and Xbox Series X update is now available – and it’s about time.
Cyberpunk 2077 It was first released in December 2020 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC, but its launch was turbulent, to say the least. The open-world action RPG from developer CD Projekt Red received a mixed reception upon release, with critics praising its storytelling and world-building. However, game-breaking bugs and performance issues (mostly on console) saw the game removed from PlayStation Store, Refunds offered by Microsoft and PlayStation Stores and the developer subject to class action for allegedly not being transparent about the game’s technical issues.
In response to the controversy, CD Projekt Red officially apologized and has since released a plethora of hotfixes and patches for the game (as well as publishing four different roadmaps). But perhaps the biggest update on the horizon is the release of Cyberpunk 2077. PS5 and Xbox Series X versions, which will bring Night City a next-gen update and (hopefully) see all the pesky bugs and performance issues that plagued the game finally resolved thanks to a “major update” that will be released alongside these versions.
This update is already here. Unveiled by CD Projekt Red during a Live broadcast On February 15th, Cyberpunk 2077 Update 1.5 brings a slew of quality-of-life improvements, graphical tweaks, and new gameplay features, all ready for next-gen consoles.

Cyberpunk 2077 PS5 and Xbox Series X release date and platforms
The next-gen version of Cyberpunk 2077 is now available. If you own the game on PS4 or Xbox One, you can get PS5 or Xbox Series X/S update for free. Xbox players will see the update automatically roll out using the console’s Smart Delivery system, while PS5 players will have to re-download the new version of the game from the PlayStation Store.
The next-gen version of the game is also expected to receive a standalone release at some point, though CD Projekt Red hasn’t said exactly when that will be.

Cyberpunk 2077 PS5 and Xbox Series X Improvements and Updates
Cyberpunk 2077’s next-gen update is meaty. In addition to making several quality of life improvements, it introduces a handful of graphical improvements and gameplay tweaks to the action RPG.
On the graphics side, the new ray tracing mode supports local light shadows with ray tracing, but crashes the game at 30 fps, while the performance mode lets you play at 60 fps with 4K dynamic scaling.
As for gameplay improvements, a selection of new weapons has been added to the 2nd Amendment shop near V’s apartment, the game’s economy has been rebalanced, and romantic NPCs reworked to add more opportunities for in-game interaction.
Additional customization options were also introduced, allowing you to remake V’s appearance mid-game, rather than having to settle for whatever face and hairstyle you chose during initial character creation. Now you can also change the appearance of V’s apartment and buy new blocks around Night City.
Quality of life improvements include improvements to crowd behavior, updated enemy AI, improved vehicle handling, and major changes to some of Cyberpunk 2077’s interfaces. The map, in particular, has been changed for clarity.
PS5 gamers can now enjoy haptic feedback using the DualSesne controller, while users of both consoles can bathe in Spatial Audio’s sonic water via headphones.
Cyberpunk 2077 PS5 and Xbox Series X: Is it free for existing players?
This update will be completely free on all platforms for anyone who currently owns Cyberpunk 2077 on Xbox One or PS4. Players will also be able to transfer their saves without any problems. It’s an automatic process for Xbox gamers, while PlayStation users need to use PlayStation Plus Cloud Saves or a USB to import their files.

In addition to releasing the PS5 and Xbox Series X update for Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red has also released a five-hour free trial of the game for next-gen systems. The demo should give you a taste of the game, and any progress you make will carry over to the full game if you decide to buy it.
