Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are going to Nintendo Switch at the end of 2022. The Pokémon Company surprised everyone by announcing two new mainline games in the series on Pokémon Day, a surprise considering that players are still exploring the world of Pokemon Legends: Arceuswhich was released on January 28th.
That might be a lot of Pokemon games for some, then, but Scarlet and Violet seem to be taking the open-world foundations laid out by Arceus and running with them, given the brief glimpses of gameplay we’ve seen so far. Understandably, minds are already racing with the possibilities of what games will offer.
According to Pokemon Scarlet and Violet official websiteGame Freak says the series “takes a new evolutionary step, allowing you to freely explore in a richly expressed open world. Various cities blend seamlessly into the borderless nature. You’ll be able to see the Pokémon of this region in the skies, in the seas, in the forests , on the streets—everywhere! You can experience the true joy of the Pokémon series—fighting wild Pokémon to catch them—now in an open world game.”
We still don’t know much about Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, however, we’ve gathered all the information you need to know about both games.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet release date
While we still don’t know the exact release date for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, we do have at least a vague release window. As part of its official announcement, The Pokémon Company confirmed that the games will be comes out at the end of 2022. That means we probably won’t see the games launch until August at the earliest.
This is quite surprising, especially considering players are still playing Pokemon Legends: Arceus which came out in January of this year. That means there will be two big Pokemon games in 2022, though some might classify Arceus as a spin-off.
Of course, both games will work a little differently, however, with Legends: Arceus a more experimental version of Pokémon, while Scarlet and Violet seem to be more in the vein of the classic Pokemon games in the series. Expect to be battling gym leaders, moving from town to town, and trying to become the best trainer in the region.

Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet announcement trailer
The announcement trailer for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet was revealed on Pokémon Day, February 27, 2022. In the trailer, we got a glimpse of the new unnamed region, as well as some of the Pokémon that inhabit it.
We can see Pokémon roaming freely around the world, as well as some of the different biomes that the region offers, such as grasslands, swamps, cityscapes, deserts, and beaches. Of course, players will experience a lot of variety when catching Pokémon.
In addition to seeing a glimpse of the region, players get their first glimpse of the new Gen 9 starters: Fuecoco and
Starter Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
The debate over which starter Pokémon is the best has already begun. We got our first look at the new companions, and as always, the types of starter Pokémon players can select from are Grass, Fire, and Water.
The Grass-type starter is called Sprigatito, an attention-seeking Grass Cat Pokémon that has an ability called Overgrow. When active, all Grass-type moves will be increased by 50% if an enemy Pokémon has a third of its health remaining.
The Fire-type starter is called Fuecoco, a laid-back Fire Croc Pokémon that knows the Blaze ability. Again, this means Fire-type moves are increased by 50% if an enemy Pokemon has a third of its health remaining.
The Water-type starter is called Quaxly, a serious, organized Duckling Pokémon that knows the Torrent ability. As before, this means that the power of Water-type moves will be increased by 50% if an enemy Pokémon has a third of its health remaining.
There is no information about evolutions for these starters, but we can be sure that each starter will have two evolutions. That’s how it’s been in Pokémon since the first game, so expect the same here.
